Japanese Footbridge and the Water Lily Pool, Giverny 1899,我一直很喜歡莫奈的畫,僅此一幅,已經十分吸引我的目光了,更別說後面還有一百多幅印象派、後印象派畫作等著我的眼睛。
“When Claude Monet advised the American artist Lilla Cabot Perry in 1889 to 'paint. . . just as it looks to you,' he fostered a myth that the Impressionists were simply observing and recording the world around them. Immediacy, candor, keen visual analysis, and a disregard for convention are all aspects of the Impressionist's eye. Yet these artists points of view, materials, and graphic tools such as cropping, unexpected perspectives, or vibrant color and texture. In these choices, the Impressionists drew out attention to the sensations of the moment and to their distinctive vision of the world.”
“Usually identified with innovations in painting technique, the Impressionists and their successors the Post-Impressionists were also talented and experimental sculptors and printmakers. Across all of their art media, they allowed their techniques to show in their finished works - we can see the scrawl of a pastel stick, the ways clay and wax were manipulated to create sculptural forms, or the shape of a brush used. Leaving such visible evidence of the artistic process was bold - some considered it lazy or amateurish - but for the artists it signaled truthfulness about process, and modernity.”
